How to Use Your LinkedIn Featured Section to Build Trust and Win Clients

The Most Overlooked Sales Tool on Your LinkedIn Profile

Most people don’t realise how critical the Featured section is to building trust and converting interest into action — but if you use it right, it becomes one of the most powerful tools in your client journey.

We all know your LinkedIn profile is more than a CV.
It’s the first test of trust.

It’s where prospects land to answer one question:
Can I see myself working with you?

But here’s what they won’t do:
Read every section.
Click through every link.
Or give you their time if you haven’t earned their attention first.

That’s where the Featured section comes in. And most people are wasting it.

Your Profile Is Part of a Journey — Not a Sales Page

When someone arrives on your profile, they’re usually not ready to buy.

They’re curious.
They’ve seen a post.
They’ve been referred.
They’re checking you out.

They don’t want your whole life story — not yet.
They want to know whether there’s a next step that feels right.

That’s why your LinkedIn profile should act as a guided client journey, with each section doing its part to move someone from interest… to belief… to action.

Your Featured section? That’s the doorway.

Most People Use the Featured Section Like a Storage Box

Outdated lead magnets. Random blogs. A PDF from a webinar that no longer exists.
Sound familiar?

But this section isn’t for leftovers.
It’s for leverage.
And it works best when it’s treated like what it truly is:
Three visual, intentional doorways into your world.

The Three Doorways That Make a Profile Work

Each doorway should reflect a different level of awareness — and a different type of buyer:

  • 🛠 The Action Taker
They’re ready. Give them a link to book a call, complete a scorecard, or access your services directly.
  • 🌱 The Explorer
They’re curious. Offer a blog post, a diagnostic, or a relatable story that helps them explore what’s possible.
  • 🧠 The Educated Buyer
They’re in research mode. Provide your method, your framework, or your thought leadership that builds belief.

Your Featured section should give all three types of people something to say yes to — no pressure, no overwhelm.

Just clear, meaningful steps forward.

And Here’s the Part Everyone Misses: Visual Flow

If your banner is bold, pink, and powerful — but your featured section is bland grey thumbnails?

You’ve dropped the energy.

Your profile needs visual consistency. The look and feel should match from top to bottom.
Colours. Fonts. Energy. Tone.

We want visual interruption.
Your banner interrupts the scroll.
Your featured content should continue the scene, not fade into the background.

This Isn’t Just Strategy. It’s Emotional Safety.

Now let’s go deeper.

Because clicking any of those doorways isn’t just a decision.
It’s an act of vulnerability.

“If I reach out to you, I’m admitting I have a problem.

I’m acknowledging that I might have to spend money.

That I might have to change something.

That I might have to face it.”

That’s a huge step for someone.
Especially if what you offer touches their business, their confidence, or their sense of identity.

So your Featured section needs to hold space for that moment.

Make the steps visible.
Make the energy safe.
Let them choose how close they come.

And once they’ve stepped in?
Then — and only then — is it time to offer the next layer.
That might be your email nurture. A private message. Or a structured funnel that invites them further in.

But don’t start with the ask.
Start with the invitation.

Your profile isn’t an online CV.
It’s part of a much bigger product ecosystem.

But it only works if those stones are intentional.
Visible. Aligned. Thoughtful.
